Preston Eugene Miller, 85, of Richmond went to be with the Lord in the evening hours on Friday March 8th, 2024, in New Castle, Indiana. Preston was born in Richmond, Indiana, on August 17th, 1938, to the late William Preston and Zella Hildreth (Tucker) Miller. He grew up in the Richmond community most of his life and attended Richmond High School. Preston enlisted into the United States Army on September 5th, 1957, he was honorably discharged in July 1960, after 3 years of service. After serving in the Army, Preston worked as a truck driver for Hills and Roses and retired after 27 years of service. He was a member with the American Legion and Whitewater Valley Land Trust. In his spare time, Preston sold and bought antiques at various flea markets, he loved collecting and buying old bottles and would dig in old dumps for early bottles. He spent many years setting up at the Richmond Farmers Market selling home grown produce. He enjoyed fishing, walking the woods, writing poetry, gardening, bird watching, selling and cutting firewood. Preston especially loved going to hundreds of flea markets with his loving companion, Bertha, and going to get a bite to eat afterwards at a restaurant.
Preston is survived by his brother, Meredith (Wanda) Miller of Richmond; 2 nieces, Stephanie Ann (Darren) Glickman and Jessica Leann (Mark) Miller; 2 step children, Shirley Dudley and Gary Lowder.
Preston is preceded in death by his sister, Vera June Jennings (2022); and his companion of 37 years, Bertha (Jessee) Lowder; and one step-daughter, Angie Adkins.
Arrangements for Preston are a visitation from 11 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. on Thursday March 14th, 2024. Burial with military honors provided by Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post #169 will follow at South Lawn in Dublin, Indiana. Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin, Indiana is honored to be entrusted with Preston’s arrangements.
